Day 363: Ecua

365/363: Ecua, originally uploaded by riekhavoc.

On the third to last day of my project, Sara, Max and I went up to Quilotoa Lake. First off, it's 3900 meters above sea level, which is incredibly high (13,000 feet or so for those of you in Los EEUU). To get there, we had to take a bus from Quito to Latacunga and another bus from Latacunga to Zumbahua. Then we had to take a mini-truck to Quilotoa. This was shot out the window of the bus on the way to Zumbahua. What I love about it is that the Quitchuan guy walked into the photo just as I was taking it, and it made the photo so much better.

At night, we stayed at a hostel that was fantastic. It was very cold, but they had a wood stove for staying warm, and they fed us soup w/ popcorn in it (try it... it's amazing!). Actually, the stove was sort of an adventure, b/c Max and Sara were already falling asleep when our fire went out. I don't really speak spanish, so I went to the woman who runs the place and said "lo siento. no hablo muchas espanol, pero no hay fuego. es muy frio." Thankfully, there were some great backpackers who helped translate to get us heat again!
